Rocker GORKI AGUILA of Cuban band PORNO PARA RICARDO has been arrested on a charge of “dangerousness”, according to his fellow bandmates.

Aguila, an outspoken critic of the country’s communist government, was apprehended by police at his home in Havana on Monday (25Aug08) just as the punk rockers prepared to record the final songs for their next album.

A statement on the band’s official website reads: “This new episode of harassment and persecution is occurring just as Porno Para Ricardo is in the middle of recording its new record, which eliminates any possibility that this repressive escalation could be described as a ‘coincidence’.

“In Cuba, the voice of the brave is silenced by the regime, which doesn’t hesitate to use intimidation and force.”

Bassist Hebert Dominguez claims authorities said Aguila’s trial will take place before a judge on Thursday (27Aug08).

A sentence of dangerousness covers anti-social behaviour, such as habitual drunkenness and drug addiction, which are contrary “to the standards of communist morality”.

The charge carries a sentence of up to four years in jail.
