Jennifer Hudson is engaged to her long-term beau David Otunga, the singer’s rep has confirmed.

Otunga proposed to the American Idol alum on the evening of Hudson’s 27th birthday (Friday, September 12) in Los Angeles.

“I can confirm that Jennifer got engaged to her boyfriend David on Friday night in L.A.” the rep tells People magazine.

Otunga went down on one knee with a Neil Lane diamond ring. The former lawyer and 2006 Harvard Law School grad is best-known as “Punk” from VH-1′s I Love New York 2.

As well as being known as one of the finalists on FOX’s Idol, Hudson shot to fame after starring alongside Jamie Foxx, Beyonce Knowles and Eddie Murphy as Effie White in the 2006 movie Dreamgirls. She won numerous awards for her role in the film, including an Academy Award; a Golden Globe Award; a BAFTA and a SAG Award.
