George Michael Dropped From Brit Awards

Posted by

London, England (Fame Features) George Michael has been dropped from next year’s (2009) Brit Awards after his recent toilet drugs scandal, according to British tabloid reports.

The Careless Whisper hitmaker, 45, was arrested on September 19 in a public toilet in the Hampstead Heath area of London for possession of Class A and C drugs.

He was due to to receive the Outstanding Contribution to Music award. But award show bosses have now decided to find another candidate, reports the Daily Mirror.

A source tells the publication, “George was frontrunner to get the lifetime achievement award. But Brits bosses felt it would be better not to be associated with him for the time being since the Brits is a shop window for our music.”

Previous winners include Oasis, Bob Geldof and Duran Duran.

A Brits spokesman could not be reached for comment as Fame went to press.

Without George Michael, where would a lot of today’s artists & groups be, George’s music has inspired so many artists past and present. The music world would be a very dull place without him. This award is and should be about the music and should never be about his personal life. George doesn’t need an award to prove how much he has changed the world of music but it would be great to show him how much he is respected.

george michael is the best singer/songwriter on this planet and a living legend who has a lifetime career from 27 years now he has never let us fans down in any way!!! there are so many singers actors and so on with drug/boose issues and they never seem to get in the way of the bad press there is always more room for our george michael its so hypocryte it just makes me angry and sad because it seems like they just wont see that george has reached so many hearts and he will always do that because he is an outstanding performer and a big comfort in all the rubbish you hear these days!!!
I am so proud to be one of his lifetime fans and nothing can change that!!!!
    we love you george!!!

I think they can take there award and shove it, THIS has to be a personal vendetta and nothing more,
he deserves this on merit of talent not his mistakes, yes he made a few,HES ADMITTED HIS MISTAKES,
DONT DENY ONE OF THE WORLDS GREATEST ARTIST THIS AWARD BECAUSE OF HIS PRIVATE LIFE

  • carolyn

I can’t believe that George Michael will not receive his honour based on allegations of drugs. George Michael has staying power, longevity, how many other artist from the 80′s are still around today, much less touring and performing before millions of people.George deserves this award, 26 years performing, writing, philanthropy and it all boils down to one allegation. I believed your organization to be above that, I believed your organization to be one of integrity. Please do not prove me to be wrong.

I’ve always believed the saying “genius is a form of madness”. George Michael is a rebel and he consistently chose an odd path but there’s no denying that he’s one of the best British singer-songwriters ever.

George Michael deserves to have this award handed to him because he has given all of us who follow him a soundtrack of terrific songs.O.k, so he has a problem with drugs, that is a personal demon that he has to work through on his own. His outstanding career warrants recognition, let him have it.Whether or not this happens, I know how great he has always been so hang in there George, your fans love you!

You idiots!!!! A heck of a lot of musicians have problems and they get awards and praises!!! George is a very honest and hard working person who happens to have an incredible voice and musical talent!

    Shame on you!!!

  • Seb

Agreed with everyone, there seem to be a lot of other drug heads worthy of Brit Awards, but not George. His talent speaks for itself anyway so no big loss really.

If this award of based on an artist’s private life, then just about all of the previous winners should have their awards taken away. This is pure bull#*&%!!!!

  • Anonymous

Yeah that’s right give it to Simon Cowell – lol lol lol………. what a laugh. DISGRACEFUL!!!!!!!

George Michael is more than deservant of the award. Just look at his contribution to music over the past 27 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!

What a joke – how many other artists have been given awards when they have blatantly obvious drug problems. What is it with the British they just refuse to acknowledge the incredible contribution that George has made to the music industry. Yes he has personal issues – who doesn’t?, but this does not in any way justify this decision.

  • IVAN

YES, THAT’S REALLY GOOD TO HELP HIM TO LET OUT THE DRUGS… IT’S INCREDIBLE, MY GOD, I’M SURE THAT OASIS, BOB GELDOF AND DURAN DURAN NEVER HAD PROBLEMS WITH DRUGS, SURE NEVER!!!
THE AWARD IS FOR HIS MUSIC CARRER OR FOR HIS TROUBLE WAY OF LIFE? … AND WHAT ABOUT AMY WINEHOUSE? ARE THE BRITS BOSSES ASKING HER TO RETURN THE AWARDS SHE WON?
I THOUGTH BRITS AWARDS WERE ABOUT MUSIC, NOT OTHER THINGS… OR MAYBE WORSE, MUSIC FOR SOME AND OTHER THINGS FOR GEORGE MICHAEL…

  • Julie Salerno

This is absolutely incredible. What George has given the British people and the world with his music; and you will take this award away from him? What about the past recipients that have received awards at the Brits…I would need a shovel to dig through all the cr*p. For two years this man played the world in sold out arenas and stadiums…this award is about his music and accomplishments as a musician…it has nothing go do with his private and personal life. Every British Fan should Ban the Brits in ’09!

  • jls

George Dropped from Brit Awards. What for??? This is incredible. This award is for the contribution to music & accomplishments. Yet other artists are supported that have had obvious drug problems & troubles in their life far, far worse than George?? Is this a showing of biasness against an openly Gay man? Come on… give the guy a break. Look at his talent & what he has accomplished. Look at what he has given to so many people over the past 27 years. I hope Brits do ban the Awards in `09

  • Robert

What an absurd story. Award or no award George Michael “Outstanding Contribution to Music” is undeniable. Since when legendary musicians don’t receive awards because they took a E tablet or smoke pot? Didn’t Paul McCartney get it last year? Oasis? David Bowie…They all had drug related problems. It’s not the healthier habit but as a singer-songwriter George Michael is up there.

  • Nicki

George’s true fans don’t need an award to know how great his music his, personal life aside, he is one of the greatest British singer/songwriters to have ever come out of this country (and to stay in this country). He is being punished for his private life yet again, like previous messages left – he is not alone in his “drug taking”, to name a few, Elton John, Rolling Stones, Oasis, Amy Winehouse for god’s sake ! Well, I am sure George is “really upset” about this decision, he knows how his fans feel and to be honest I think that is the only opinions that he cares about. I for one will not be watching the Brits in 2009 or any following year for that matter until they wake up and realise what talent this country still has instead of the crap that they will give awards to.

I think that it is outrageous that it would even be considered to drop someone with such talent, he is obviously deservent of this nomination and award. I don’t understand the double standards, I doubt very much that there is a muscian out there that is a saint, I agree he may have a problem but that has nothing to do with the joy and happiness he brings to his millions of fans..this should be reconsidered.

  • Kimberlie

Funny,i thought this award was judged by talent, not lifestyle.

George has made alot of people very happy this past 2 years and now because of a stuff-up, which he has apologised for he is being dropped??
Give George his award he deserves it more than anyone. Get off his back!
    I love you George.

  • maria

obviously this award is now about personal goings on and not music anymore??? i will not go on about other people who have been award winners AND have drug problems but i will say this…George Michael has more talent in his little Greek finger than most artists have in their whole bodies, 27 years people! how shallow are the powers that be at the brits?

  • Donna

    “Outstanding Contribution to Music”

with or without this badge George Michael has no competition

    simply.
