The parents of Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal are set to divorce.
Naomi Foner Gyllenhaal filed for divorce from Stephen Gyllenhaal on Wednesday, Los Angeles County court documents show.
The couple married in 1976 and have property in Los Angeles and Martha’s Vineyard.
During an interview last year, Jake, 27, was asked what relationship advice his parents had given him.
He responded, “This marks the 30th wedding anniversary of my parents. A young man came up to my dad and asked him, ‘What’s it like being married to the same woman for 30 years?’
“My dad answered, ‘She’s not the same woman.’”
Naomi – a screenwriter - has written the screenplays for several feature films, including Running on Empty (for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay and won a Golden Globe Award for the same category), Losing Isaiah, and most recently Bee Season. She was previously married to historian and Columbia Professor Eric Foner.
Stephen – a film director – directed the film version of the Pete Dexter novel Paris Trout, which was nominated for five Emmy awards.
He is also a poet who has been published in literary journals such as Prairie Schooner and Nimrod. His first collection of poetry, Claptrap: Notes from Hollywood, was published in June 2006.
