He has a gift for playing, a gift he can improve and refine – and he’ll do in time, surely. But let me just say two things… 1) Pattinson’s not the next Orlando Bloom. No actor should be “the next ‘just anybody’”. It’s meaningless to wish him success by resembling another one. 2) Acting is a gratifying job, fans pay the ticket for your movies, congratulate you on your work... And yet Pattinson’s fans camp for him, scream, cry, overwhelm him without a break. Well, this is not a good way to appreciate his job. It’s the perfect way to suffocate him and make him think he’s just a sex symbol, the next-door boy, ‘so adorable’ and ‘so sweet’. He’s not ‘adorable’, he’s not ‘sweet’, he’s not Edward Cullen. He’s Robert Pattinson, an actor, and a pretty good one. Screaming girls are not really his fans, they’re just in love with somebody who exists only in their young dreaming minds. I hope that Pattinson could live in peace and be appreciated for his real talent, safe from a collective delirium that I don’t understand, and he doesn’t understand. Pattinson’s a fairly good actor.
