John Travolta, Kelly Preston Return to Florida with Jett’s Ashes

John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston have landed in Florida with the remains of their tragic son, Jett.

Jett, who had a history of seizures, was found unconscious in a bathroom last Friday inside the Travolta family’s holiday home on Grand Bahama Island. He was pronounced dead by an emergency room doctor at 12:14 pm on Jan. 2.

The couple received an urn with his ashes and left the island chain on Monday night, according to Obie Wilchcombe, a member of the Bahamas parliament and a family friend.

Wilchcombe said, “Everything was in place, the cremation was completed, and they decided to leave.”

Funeral plans have yet to be announced.

In Ocala, Fla., where the Travoltas have a home, Mayor Randy Ewers said the city has sent the family condolences and would afford them time alone with their grief.

“They’re fantastic people, really family oriented,” Ewers said. “We want to respect their privacy as much as possible.”

On Sunday, Travolta, 54, and Preston, 46, released a statement thanking friends and fans for their condolences.

“Jett was the most wonderful son that two parents could ever ask for and lit up the lives of everyone he encountered,” they said. “We are heartbroken that our time with him was so brief. We will cherish the time we had with him for the rest of our lives.”

Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks and Tom Cruise are among the stars who have reached out to the Travoltas.

John’s lawyer Michael Ossi told CNN, “Everybody has reached out. It seems like the world has reached out and feels the pain that John and Kelly are going through. Thousands and thousands of phone calls have been received. Oprah has called, you name it, they’ve called.

“We have received many messages of condolence from around the world and we want to thank everyone for their prayers and support. It has meant so much to us. It is a beautiful reminder of the inherent goodness in the human spirit that gives us hope for a brighter future.”

It has previously been reported that Jett suffered from autism, which Travolta has denied – instead saying Jett is inflicted with Kawasaki Syndrome, which can lead to heart disease. In an interview with USA Today in 2002, Kelly recalled her son’s diagnosis after he became “very, very sick with high fever and swollen glands and peeling fingers and rash all over his body” eight years earlier.
