Sacha Baron Cohen Booed For Madonna Gag

Sacha Baron Cohen was left red-faced at Sunday’s Golden Globes – after his gag about Madonna failed to draw laughs from the star-studded audience.

The British comic, presenting the Best Comedy award, joked about how the recession was affecting Hollywood.

He said, “The recession is affecting all of us, even movie stars.

“Victoria Beckham hasn’t eaten for three weeks, Charlie Sheen has been forced to have sex without paying for it.”

But the Borat star drew boos when he ripped on Madonna.

“And even Madonna has had to let one of her personal assistants go,” he said. “Our thoughts go out to you, Guy Ritchie!”

Cohen wasn’t the only celeb to give a quirky speech.

Fellow British comedian Ricky Gervais raised a laugh when he told the audience – including Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Penelope Cruz and Kate Winslet – “I’m not even nominated, which detracts from the credibility of any awards ceremony.”

Referring to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, who vote for the awards, he said, “That was a waste of a campaign.

“That’s the last time I have sex with 300 middle-aged journalists. It was horrible.”
