Patrick Swayze Clears Pneumonia

Patrick Swayze is “almost” clear of pneumonia.

The Dirty Dancing star, 56, who is currently battling stage-four pancreatic cancer, checked himself into a hospital last Friday after being unable to shake a persistent cough.

But he isn’t at death’s door.

“I am alive and plan on continuing to stay that way,” Swayze tells People magazine in its new issue.

“It made me suspect there was a possibility of some kind of infection,” the actor added. “I wanted to jump on it before it turned into a problem. As soon as I got home, I called my doctor and then went straight to the hospital and was immediately put on antibiotics. I’m almost in the clear.”

In a ABC recent primetime special, Swayze denied claims that he was on his deathbed but said he may have only two years to live.

“I’d say five years is pretty wishful thinking,” he told Barbara Walters. “Two years seems likely if you’re going to believe statistics.

“I want to last until they find a cure, which means I’d better get a fire under it.”
