Goody Has Tumor Removed
Jade Goody underwent surgery yesterday to remove a life-threatening tumor, according to British reports.
The reality TV star – who is battling cervical cancer – was told by surgeons they had to operate after discovering a “golf-ball sized” blockage in her bowel, reports the Daily Mirror.
“This is yet another terrible blow for her. Things just seem to be going from bad to worse,” a source told the paper.
“She had just come to terms with the fact that the cancer had spread and was trying to be positive after a meeting with her specialist earlier in this week.
“Jade was trying to be optimistic and was beginning to think she still had a chance despite all the setbacks. But this has been devastating.
“She was told she had to have surgery almost immediately – because of the size of the tumor and its position the doctors had no real choice but to operate straight away. She was scared.
“She has been really poorly for the last week but wasn’t expecting to face major surgery.”
Goody’s boyfriend Jack Tweed, 21, was believed to be at London’s Royal Marsden Hospital waiting to see her after the operation.
A friend of Jade’s added, “We are hoping and praying for her but things now look very bleak.”
Goody, 27, was first diagnosed with the illness last August and has undergone extensive chemotherapy treatment which has left her hairless. The mom of two was told earlier this week her cancer had spread to her bowel, liver and groin.
Doctors have reportedly prescribed a two-month course of Topotecan, which is still being tested in the UK and is used by sufferers who do not respond to more conventional treatments.
Goody said it had given her a “glimmer of hope”.
