Alexandra Burke reportedly snubbed Lionel Richie’s offer to join him on tour – because she is too busy working on her debut album.
Burke – who won British TV talent The X Factor in December last year, and subsequently went on to have a number one with her single Hallelujah – was approached by the All Night Long hitmaker to be his warm-up act during a series of U.K. concerts in March this year.
But Burke, 20, turned down the music legend’s request on the advice of mentor Simon Cowell – who wants to make her as successful as previous X Factor winner Leona Lewis.
“Simon and all at her label Syco are determined to do what they did with Leona and shelter her away,” a source tells British tabloid the Daily Star. “They want Alexandra to be able to concentrate on making a brilliant album.
“Touring with Lionel would of course have been a massive opportunity, but it’s a lot of work and stressful preparation for that sort of thing.
“Lionel made it clear he wanted Alex to join his tour and is very disappointed.”
