Madonna is planning to make another big-screen splash – playing the Prince of Wales’ mistress in a new film.

The Material Girl – who recently divorced British movie-maker Guy Ritchie after almost 8-years of marriage – is reportedly keen to play American socialite Wallis Simpson after becoming fascinated with her story.

Wallis’ romance with the future King Edward VIII caused a scandal – just like Prince Charles’ with Camilla.

Edward was banned by his family from marrying the twice-divorced beauty, but gave up the throne to be with her in 1936.

Madonna told pals she “sees similarities” between herself and Wallis as they are both feisty Americans who married Englishmen and caused a stir, according to British newspaper The Sun.

The 50-year-old is said to have covered a wall of her London house with articles about her and even wrote to Queen Elizabeth – Edward’s niece – for permission to make a movie.

A source says, “Madonna sees Wallis Simpson as her next big film project.

“She is as passionate about it as she was about playing Eva Peron in Evita.

“Madonna said she is fascinated about this American commoner who refused to conform or offer explanations for her tangled love life.

“It was all systems go until the divorce, when everything was put on the back-burner.

“When things in her life settle down this year, she’s keen to get things going again.”
