Chris Brown called Rihanna on her 21st birthday and lavished her with gifts in a bid to get back in her “good graces”, according to a new report.

The Run It hitmaker was arrested earlier this month after allegedly assaulting Rihanna, leaving her with two “huge contusions” on both sides of her forehead, a bloody lip and bloody nose. The LAPD is investigating the source of leaked photos that showed the extent of her injuries.

And Brown, 19, is determined to heel the rift between the pair, so splashed out on a diamond bracelet and necklace for the star, reports the New York Daily News.

A source tells the publication, “Chris called Rihanna to wish her a happy birthday. He’s absolutely trying to get back into her good graces. He knows he’s very much in the doghouse right now, and is doing everything he can to show her how sorry he is.

“Rihanna so wanted Chris with her on her big day, but obviously realizes why they can’t be together right now. But it’s becoming more and more clear that she can’t be without him.”

Rihanna released a statement on Friday, assuring fans she “remains strong” and is “doing well”.

“At the request of the authorities, Rihanna is not commenting about the incident involving Chris Brown,” said the statement from her rep. “She wants to assure her fans that she remains strong, is doing well, and deeply appreciates the outpouring of support she has received during this difficult time.”

“She hasn’t scarred or anything,” the source adds.
