Dakota Fanning to Star in The Runways
Dakota Fanning is reportedly set to star alongside Kristen Stewart in new movie The Runaways, the biopic of the ’70s all-girl band.
Stewart is to play Joan Jett; Fanning is said to be in negotiations to play lead singer Cheri Currie, according to industry publication Variety.
Written and directed by Floria Sigismondi, the film begins production in late spring.
At 15, Fanning is the same age Currie was when she made her debut with the Runaways as the lead singer who belted out hard-edged tunes like Cherry Bomb. Currie became caught up in drugs and a hard-partying lifestyle.
Dakota – whose breakthrough performance was in I Am Sam in 2001 – could also be starring alongside Kristen in Twilight sequel New Moon, which is due out later this year.
“It’s not 100 percent yet set in stone but it’s definitely not totally untrue or a rumor,” Dakota – who has been tipped to play Volturi vampire Jane – recently said. “It’s definitely a possibility and I think it would be really, really fun to be a part of.”
