Michael Jackson Demands Four Hair Driers For London Gigs

Posted by

Michael Jackson has asked for his dressing room to be equipped with four hair driers and 24 hand towels during his farewell gigs in London.

The 50-year-old singer announced last week that he’d be playing 10 concerts beginning July 8th at the British capital’s O2 Arena.

And Jackson’s list of bizarre requests – which also reportedly includes ten clothing rails, a nail brush and raspberry-scented candles – has surprised music industry insiders, according to British newspaper the Daily Star on Sunday.

One said, “This just doesn’t sound like your regular rock gig at all.

“Some bands demand never-ending supplies of exotic foods, designer booze and the most expensive luxuries that money can buy.

“Michael’s rider isn’t just modest by industry standards – it’s downright weird.

“Who needs four hair driers? Who needs 24 hand towels? And who’d bother to add a fifty-cent nail brush to the list?”

You know, most stuff like that isn’t decided at this point, and I doubt a scrap of it is true anyway. However, because most people don’t have a clue what goes on during a show like this, perhaps I can shed some light on it. The guy performed nearly 120 gigs across the globe on just one tour some years ago, so I think frankly he probably knows what he needs to get through. You get sodding hot on stage – especially if you are a dancer – so yes – you need towels to dry off between numbers and costume changes – and it is really gross to have to use the same sweaty towel you used at the beginning of the show. Hair dryers mostly come with a cold shot setting these days, and having done loads of big shows like this (I dance and sing on the rock circuit), you need to cool off quickly between numbers – both your body and your hair. Nothing quite does it like a hair dryer! I would imagine, as in other shows I’ve done, that he has a make-up , costume and hair team with him – and being blasted by hair dryers on the cool setting would be like a blessed relief. not only that, but getting your sweaty hair dried a bit by two people on each side makes light work of an annoying task. A fifty cent nailbrush? I’ve no idea about this, except that it’s probably one of those funny things that he’s needed before – you can get really grimy on stage, and his routines do involve floor work. So imagine that the camera has close ups of him singing into a microphone and he’s got nasty grimy nails – doesn’t seem excessive to me at all.

I think half the time the reason why performers like him get so much bs thrown at them about stuff like this is because most people around the world have no idea what it is like to be a performer, or what goes into creating a big concert like this. To most people, who sit in an office all day, it probably does seem excessive – but I can tell you; some performers I know require sex during and after the show – and this is lined up along with the food and the booze. I doubt in this light that Michael Jackson’s requests are remotely odd. Try being a world famous rock star for a night – it’s really, really scary!
