Jade Goody Magazine Cover Sparks Outrage

Posted by

“Jade Goody 1981-2009″. That’s what it says on the front cover of OK! magazine, one of the UK’s highest-selling celebrity weeklies.

There’s one minor problem, though: Jade isn’t dead yet.

The current edition of the magazine, which has a “World Exclusive” interview with Jade, went on sale Tuesday. It has since sparked outrage across the internet, with many threatening to boycott the publication.

We’ve scanned Twitter to find people’s reactions.

“Is it just me or is OK cover today just really wrong – she’s not dead yet,” said the user TVinsider. “Can I join in the ‘OK mag you are a bunch of c*nts’ rants too!!”

“It’s the 1981-2009 part that pushed it over the decency cliff for me,” wrote SamShepherd.

“My thoughts are that [OK! publisher] Richard Desmond and [publicist] Max Clifford should go f*ck themselves. Utter c*nts. Pleasure,” wrote holymolydotcom.

Cancer-stricken Jade, 27, is said to have just hours left to live after her condition worsened over the weekend.

I think its disgusting that OK have published this tribute edition BEFORE Jade has passed away; although it seems inevitable i for one am hoping she spends as many days as possible, providing pain-free, with her family … not writing her off already!
I have seen in the media all last week how her timeline has diminished from months, weeks, days and hours but to discuss her as if she is already dead is really the most disgusting act of journalism and i wont be buying OK ever again!

I think people should watch the Living shows with jade. I did not really like her much because of Celeb BB but once I watched the documentaries with her I got to know a really different jade. A strong, funny, sometimes bitchy but most of all loving mom and I am so sad for her. Plus disgusted by some people that are still filled with hatred against her. Her family should sew the magazine and give the money to cancer research.

  • mememe

I think having these dates on the front of this issue is terrible but as Jade had her wedding photo agreement with them perhaps this is also with her agreement? I’m sure if it isnt, they will get it sorted and get money from them. This seems to be an important issue at the moment!
I do pray all the best for Jade, but find it annoying that no one wants publicity unless they have chosen it.

  • Lucy

I too will be boycotting OK. The edition should never have been allowed to go to print until the poor woman actually MET her unfortunate demise.

In relation to the people who insist in posting disrespectful and offensive comments, I wish to make the following two observations. Firstly, imagine if, as a child, your mother had left you? Would you be feeling the same? Secondly, NO parent should face the prospect of leaving their children behind. I cannot begin to imagine who Jade feels and my heart breaks for her and her family.

Whatever your opinion my have been of her previously, please treat this tragic situation with the respect it deserves!

  • So what?

Jade has sucked all she can off the tit of the media machine. She probably had this one coming. No-one else with a terminal disease makes millions orchestrating a wedding and baptisms to generate more interest in their death.

I believe I’ll start buying OK, once she’s no longer on the cover.

  • Georgia

I am very discusted with OK magazine, i will never read this buy it or look at it ever again!… i feel sorry for Jade because she hasn’t even passed away yet.. and there already doing a tribute! its terrible!
    Im shocked!

I will be boycotting OK magazine for this insensitive approach to a poor young woman, who after being “lucky” enough to be able to make sure her 2 boys have the best start in their lives without her (and good on her, given the chance I would do exactly the same for my children),Jade obviously trusted OK and they pull a stunt like this!!! DISGUSTING!!!! They shouldnt actually be allowed to get away with what they have done, whether or not Jade dies in 2009 the poor girl hasnt even left this life yet, her family & friends who will be going through hell (as I have a few times due to this disease), have to see something sick like that! Because lets face it that is what it is…..My heart goes out to Jade and I say well done girl, you are an inspiration for a number of reasons, your boys are blessed and lucky to have a mum like you, who’s selflessness never got in the way of her beliefs.

  • Emma

Upon seeing the front page for this magazine i have been appauled. Yes we all know that she isn’t going to live for much longer but this magazine is acting like she is already dead. I have been buying all the ok magazines recently to see all the pictures and read Jades interviews but this one i WON’T be buying. All the celeb’s usually pick OK! to do exclusive interviews but maybe this should be a lesson that even OK! will sink lower than low to line their pockets. UTTERLY DISGUSTED!!!

  • POLICYofTRUTH

I simply can not believe how the editiors of OK! magazine could print this selfish and money making edition on Jade Goody.
OK! has always had a good relationship with its celebs and readers and been know as the mag that prints the truth….
    Two points here..
1/ I watched the Piers Morgan / Katie Price interview, Piers basicly asked Katie to explain why they put ‘Misleading’ head lines on the cover of OK!-The answer…It sells more copies!
2/ This magazine artical on Jade is in such bad taste (wether Jade agreed or not) This is a discrace!!!

I work in a large office where we have approx 10 copies of OK! delivered weekly for our clients to read while waiting (one on each floor). I have just sent this link to my Manager and he has ordered that the weekly subscription is to be cancelled with imediate affect…..
    Good!
Lets spread the word to all and get this pathetic magazine off our shelfs!!!

    DONT BUY OK! MAGAZINE-EVER AGAIN!!!

  • sally

you stupid idiot how can you be so disgusting ? here we have a young woman (just 27 may i remind you)who fought so hard for her life and is now sadly about to lose it. Jade has raised an incredible amount of awareness about this horrible nasty diease and will no doubt save many lives even if hers could’nt be. Yes jade has sold all rights to a magazine (who has let her down with their latest issue – you know who you are) but it has all been in aid of her two precious sons who are about to lose their mother at such a tender age so she cannot be slated for that she won’t be here to guide them but she can most definantly give them the best possible start so please be aware everything she has done these last few months is for those darling boys and their future not to mention the lives she will indeed save. so if you who made such a nasty comment can’t show some respect and be a little decent shut the FUCK up you PRICK . GOD BLESS YOU JADE AND I HOPE THERE IS LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL FOR YOU.

  • sue

I am upset and disgusted at the insensative front page of this magazine. Where there is life there is hope, but this has been denied jade in her final hours of need, it may be a realistic view of what is about to happen but I personnally don’t think that it is in good taste. I will not be purchasing this edition of o.k magazine, and I may decide not to even buy it in the future if an apololgy to Jades family is not published.

  • Mice

What the hell didn’t she give them? How dare they stab her in the back during her last days or hours. Don’t purchase it anyone. Let them see how we feel.

  • Carolyn

Body of email I sent to the editor the rag OK magazine

    Sugject: Congratulations

    Obscene bad taste.

Not content with record sales for her wedding, you now cash in early when the poor girl is not yet dead.
You really have let her and her family know just how much of a cash cow her death is to you.
Oh yes I know Jade wants to make money but I am sure Jade and her family would have expected that out of goodness, order and decency, you would have waited a few more days for this posthumous edition to go on sale.

    End……

I hope outraged people do not buy OK this week or ever again for this gross breach of greed, decency amd moral conduct and that OK magaine dies its own death swifty.

Taken a leaf out of the above poster and have sent the following to the editor:

    Dear Sir

I have never before felt compelled to write to the editor of a magazine, and hope never to feel compelled to do so again.

However, I felt it necessary on this occasion to make my point due to the nature of the cover of your latest issue.

I cannot understand how you have allowed this issue to be released with this cover. The poor taste you have shown I cannot fathom.

I am not sure if the news has reached your offices yet, but if not I feel I must break it to you… Jade Goody, at the time of writing this email, is not yet dead. The cover of your magazine is not a tribute to a dying girl, it reads as a tribute to someone that has died already.

Do you realise that her family, friends and possibly even her children will see this cover? Do you understand the distress you may be causing to her family or friends?

Where as I understand that Jade with the help of Max Clifford has engineered as much coverage as possible to gain maximum profit for her children (which I understand and appreciate) this is just one step too far.

What you have published are not her final words, she has yet to speak those. Or are you sitting rubbing your hands hoping that she dies before most people will see the magazine.

And if the above comment sounds distasteful, then good, your current issue has left me with a very nasty taste in my mouth and the above comment is a reflection of the feeling your current cover has left me with.

As its too late for you to do anything about the cover, might I at least suggest that the profit you make from this issue is donated to cancer research or can be guaranteed to go into a trust fund for her children. If this is not done then Jades trust in you was misplaced, I just hope that she never learns of this issue and learn that she was nothing more than a cash cow for you.

    Very badly done.

    …………………………..

I’ll never buy their magazine again

  • Jade Fan

I heard the advert for this edition of OK mag on the t.v this evening, I had my back turned from the telly and as soon as I heard it I looked and thought “oh god shes died” I then went online to check and there was nothing !! I can not believe you greedy bunch of bastards have published this, you are the LOWEST OF THE LOW you done this to her family yet she chose you to give her stories to, you had it all… mags flying off the shelves, but you couldnt wait til next week,we are not hick you would have been working on this for weeks, thats what you do thats journalism and the papers for you, all about number one but what the hell were you too scared of loosing sales if you were a few days behind everyone else .. OH MY GOD greedy, heartless, selfish…. im fuming here.. ALL MONEY FROM THIS ARTICLE SHOULD GO TO HER BOYS, SHAME ON YOU ESPECIALLY THE PERSON THAT SENT THIS TO PRINT AND DISTRIBUTION…. im going before I loose it !!!
I wont be buying OK ever ever ever again!

    Stop Whinging and complain.
Despite receiving more than 60 complaints about OK! magazine publishing a “tribute issue” to the terminally ill Jade Goody while she is still alive, the Press Complaints Commission will not investigate the complaints.

    Oh Really, why not!

After an initial assessment, the press watchdog today concluded it was unable to carry forward a formal investigation as the bulk of complaints had focused on the impact on Jade Goody and her family.

During a press briefing earlier this week, sir Christopher Meyer, chairman of the PCC, reiterated the watchdog’s general principle for accepting and dealing with complaints from third parties.

“We have never said no to third-party complaints,” he told journalists. “What we have always said is that what you can’t have is a third party trumping the rights and wishes of a first party.”

    So there you have it
Its how you feel about the publication of an obitury for a living person.
It must not be about the injured party or family, i.e. Jade Goody & Co.

  • Sandra

I think it more disturbing that in THAT ok magazine, there are celebrites paying there respects to Jade in the past tense, as if she was dead already. How come that happened when she wasn’t even dead yet. So were those celeb quotes true or false? I think it was all totally inappropriate. God bless you Jade, rest in peace darling. x

  • Mash!

Omg, i’m sorry but the world has gone absolutely crazy over Jade.. Yeah ok she has an awful illness many thoughts go out to her. But for crying out loud she isn’t the only person in the world to has had Cancer. You don’t see others spreading there lives out all over magazines. I think its disgusting that there is all this fuss over one Celebratey who isn’t even really a Celeb. The Doctors othered her treatment right from the start which she refused. So No offence but its her Fault. If she’s not willing to help herself in the first place no wonder she got Worse.. Its all for the money and she’s got everyone running after her. There are kids and adults who are living with cancer everyday. JADE isn’t the only living person who has it. Because she’s loving every second of it, To be honsted i don’t feel sad for her i feel angry that she is raking in money. I don’t see my aunty getting loadsa money when she was going through cancer or her friends who’ve gone through it. People need to start treating her like a normal human being because thats all she is and will ever be. She’s not a fricking Princess.

  • cat

what im more appauled and puzzled about isnt the front cover, its something thats written inside. in one bit it says ” before the cancer stricken star died she said…..” i bought this mag on tuesday, she only died the sunday after, so why write what they did? either theyre bein totally disrespectful or jade didnt die on mothers day and we are just being led to believe she did? dont get me wrong i am a lover of jade and i would love for this to all be a stunt (as sick as that sounds) cos it would mean she would still be alive and her sons would have a mother but i cant help thinkin something fishy is goin on that we dont know about, i just cant put my finger on it, but sleep well jade, if you have infact left us and this earth already. cat x

  • cat

to reply to the jade, the worlds gone crazy post…… is your aunty in the public eye? probably not. the whole world knows that jade isnt the only one in the world who has cancer, who the hell has ever said that? no one! its just she has chosen to do what she has done in the public eye to raise money and awareness, and good on her, i know i would! and im sure if anyone else who has cancer who isnt famous had the chance to raise money for their loved ones to keep them comfortable after they had gone im sure they would do it too!! how can you say shes lovin it?!?! she was dyin for fucks sake! you sick git!! oh yeah shes bound to be lovin the fact that the 2 sons he gave birth to are goin to be left without a mum for the rest of their lives, i bet shes just wettin herself with laughter over it! people make mistakes in their lives and shouldnt be condemned for all the ones they make, otherwise we would all be in a more sorry state of affairs than we are now.
i feel for all people who have to experience cancer, but to say it was her own fault is out of order. to you tell all smokers who get lung cancer its their fault theyre dyin? no so why say it about jade
she isnt a celeb? i bet if you got the chance to make so much money doin something as easy as what she did initially you would jump at it, and anyone who says they wouldnt is a god damn liar
    rant over!

Just shows what all this is about – making money. Couldn’t even wait till she died cos they needed to put out the tribute out this week. It has all gone downhill since the wedding, am ashamed to say I live in this country.

  • yayme

“ok should pay jades family for the cock up shame on them”

    jade, is that you?

  • jemma murphy

to either her two young boys or cancer research or both its appalling…..im disgusted at the quest to make money from this sad situation by the media. the poor girl is still here however frail!!!!!

EVERY SINGLE PENNY THAT IS GOING TO BE MADE FROM THIS EDITION SHOULD GO TO A GOOD USEFUL CAUSE AS A MARK OF RESPECT TO JADE HER FAMILY AND THE PUBLIC AND NOT IN THE EDITORS BACK POCKET

    OK YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED,!!!!!!!!!!!

    GOD BLESS JADE

    jemma

  • Anonymous

This is extremely disrespectful! Jade allows you to have her exclusive interviews and pictures etc and you pay her back by doing this? She hasnt even died yet!!! i understand Jade hasnt got long left, but what you have done is utterly disgraceful! you should be ashamed of yourselves! and to think poor Jade trusted you, what a mistake!!!!

you have probably lost yourself many buyers now, and to be honest, so you should! i certainly wont be buying your magazine again! i once thought you were a respectful mag. How wrong could i have been!

  • deborah

Oh please ….this is just disgusting and soooooooo distasteful ….what the bloody hell is going on with the media and decorum ?? I think it is intrusive, without care and mourning the dead before they have died ….but this is what happens when the media circus isn’t controlled….I think for this complete cock up they should put the money that they would have made after paying Jade to cancer research as a major sorry as many families going through this will be feeling the shock and the pain too …..what dick splash sent that to print ????

  • confused

a unknown no-one who rises to fame by acting like an idiot in a stupid show – now turns her own death into a media circus… everyone knows she will die in 2009 – so what’s the problem

  • http://www.youtube.com/jadegoodynews youtube.com/jadegoodynews

I have to admit I found it a bit disturbing that they couldnt wait a week or at least word it differently. Make it a tribute issue without the dates at least!

  • jemma murphy

the difference is you insensitive git is her remaining in the media has both raised awareness of cervical cancer and may possibly have saved someones life and plus she wanted to make some money for who two sons as any loving mother would, this however isnt going to her two boys its pureley for the magazine and the fat cats that own it
