Zac Efron has reportedly pulled out of the musical remake of Footloose.

The High School Musical star – who previously said he would add his “own little bit of flair” to the role originated by Kevin Bacon – will no longer be starring in the flick – which was slated to begin shooting this spring for a 2010 release, according to Entertainment Tonight.

Footloose was planned to be helmed by Kenny Ortega, who directed Zac in all three High School Musical productions.

Efron, 21, reportedly told Paramount that he’s not interested in doing another musical right now.

“People had been working on this project since last July – we were all shocked,” a source said.

Zac will next be seen in 17 Again.
