Angelina Jolie is being lined up to play Dr Kay Scarpetta in a film adaptation of Patricia Cornwell’s mega-bestselling books — after studio Fox 2000 recently announced that they are seeking the rights to the series.

There are 16 Scarpetta novels, meaning a franchise is hoped for, but this film won’t be tied to a specific Cornwell mystery title.

Jolie, 33, is a very busy lady.

The actress — who raises six children with partner Brad Pitt – is currently in New York, shooting the thriller film Salt. She’s due to voice her character in Kung Fu Panda 2 — and she might even be returning for the Wanted sequel.
