Vanessa Hudgens to Star in The Beastly

Vanessa Hudgens is moving on from her High School Musical days.
The actress, 20, has landed a role in new movie The Beastly — which is a a modern-day take on Beauty and the Beast.
CBS Films — which is currently producing the Untitled Crowley Project with Harrison Ford, Brendan Fraser and Keri Russell — has announced its latest project with a female superstar in the lead. Following The Back-Up Plan with Jennifer Lopez, Beastly is a modern-day take on Beauty and the Beast, with Vanessa playing the role of the fair maiden.
Set in Manhattan, the movie tells the story of a handsome rich kid with a mean streak. When he ditches a date, a curse is placed upon him, turning him into everything he hates. The grotesque transformation leaves him with the seemingly impossible task of finding true love to break the ugly spell.
The film will shoot in summer 2009.
