Penelope Cruz was struck down by food poisoning while in Cannes, France, on Monday.

The Oscar-winning actress was at the film festival to premiere her movie Broken Embraces, which is directed by Pedro Almodóvar.

Cruz was also slated to join movie mogul Harvey Weinstein in presenting a trailer and a teaser for Nine, but fell ill.

“She’s got some kind of food poisoning,” Weinstein said at a press conference. “She’s been really sick and being treated by a doctor now.”

“She really wants to be there, but it’s so unlikely now,” a source added. “The priority is to get better for tomorrow night. No one wants to lose their Cannes moment.

“She was so disappointed because she wanted to enjoy the festival. Now she’s stuck in bed.”
