Robert Downey Jr: ‘Sherlock Holmes is Like Lethal Weapon’

Robert Downey Jr. says the new Sherlock Holmes movie is like Lethal Weapon.
The Tropic Thunder actor stars opposite Jude Law as Dr Watson in British director Guy Ritchie‘s Sherlock Holmes, and Downey says the duo remind him of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover‘s ’80s action romps.
“It reminds me of Lethal Weapon or The Odd Couple or Butch and Sundance,” says Downey. “They are kind of a mix of all those. It’s that same thing when you are taking the eccentricities that everybody can relate to because they’re not so far-fetched.”
Downey has previously said his portrayal of the famous fictional detective is “bad ass”.
“It’s pretty bad ass,” he said. “1891 Victorian England was a petty gnarly place. Ours is a different Holmes but still respectful to the character.
“I think as much as anything, the reinvention is actually a return to the idiosyncrasies that Conan Doyle had in his books that people hadn’t really paid much attention to.”
