Brad Pitt landed his role in Second World War movie Inglourious Basterds after enjoying five bottles of wine and some kind of “smoking apparatus” with its director Quentin Tarantino.

Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival, the 45-year-old actor — who raises six children with Angelina Jolie — said he had only a hazy recollection of agreeing to make the flick.

“Quentin came to visit some time at the end of the summer, we talked about backstory, we talked about movies — I get up the next morning and see five empty bottles of wine right on the floor, five, and something that resembles a smoking apparatus — I don’t know what that was about — and apparently I had agreed to do this film.”

Meanwhile, Pitt and Jolie have been spotted together for the first time in three months, at Cannes.

The couple dined at the Michelangelo restaurant in Antibe last night with the cast and crew of Inglorious Basterds, which is due to premiere at the film festival.

Brad arrived in France earlier in the week but Ange only flew in yesterday after spending a day at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
