Lily Allen’s Former Manager Defends Her Outspoken Nature
Lily Allen’s former manager has spoken out to defend the singer’s outspoken nature.
George Lamb – who now presents (when he’s not on holiday) the mid-morning show on UK radio station BBC 6 Music — says Lily has intense media pressure to deal with and it was up to her whether she voices her opinions.
“For whatever reasons she doesn’t feel comfortable enough keeping her mouth shut and letting things be,” Lamb said of Lily, who recently launched a scathing attack on Britain’s Got Talent hopeful Susan Boyle.
“Let her do it — what can you do? People are gonna do whatever they wanna do anyway. I wouldn’t do it — I choose not to slag people off, but that’s her prerogative.”
“She’s done a lot of things at 23 that I couldn’t say [I've done] at 29,” said Lamb.
“It’s difficult, success coming young to you, growing up in the kind of celebrity culture we’re in at the moment, the people who want you to act and react and poke you and prod you and they want her to be this character and they manifest it almost.”
George also praised Lily for the way she’s come back with a hit album despite criticism of her behavior in the media.
“I don’t think she could have come back with a cleverer, more versatile, smart smart album,” he said. “She polarizes people and there’s a lot of people against her, a lot of people want to vilify her and a lot of people want to put her down.”
