Madonna Wins Adoption Bid

Posted by Adam

MadonnaMadonna has finally got her way — she has been told she’s allowed to adopt Malawian toddler Mercy James.

Malawi’s highest court on Friday overturned the original ruling which denied the pop superstar’s adoption bid allowing her second adoption from the country.

The Supreme Court of Appeal said that a lower court failed to take modern realities into account in initially rejecting Madonna’s application to adopt the 3-year-old.

Previously, a judge and a lawyer told reporters that Madonna, 50, did not meet a requirement that prospective parents must be resident in the country for 18 to 24 months.

Mercy will now be flown on a private jet to be with Madonna and her children Lourdes, 12, Rocco, eight, and David, three, in New York where she is expected to attend nursery school with David.

A source at the High Court said, “The Eye of the Child — which opposed the adoption — failed to convince the bench why the orphanage was better for Mercy than Madonna’s residence.”

Government sources said the President backed the star. One said, “We have close to two million orphans here so even if only one is adopted we have to celebrate.”
