Penelope Cruz is so attached to her Oscar she has only just put it down.

The Spanish beauty was so pleased with her Best Supporting Actress gong for Vicky Cristina Barcelona that for four months she didn’t want to let it out of her sight so she carried it with her everywhere she went.

“I took it everywhere with me, I even took it to the beach one day because I was so excited that I would wake up and look at it and say: ‘No, that’s not mine. How did this happen?’” Cruz explains.

“Because those months of traveling and all the campaigns I was crossing the Atlantic every four or six days for months so you get in a state where you are so tired you don’t even know in which city you are.

“The day after this whole thing I woke up and the Oscar was there. I thought: ‘Maybe it’s one of those that my friends have given me before, for like best friend, best daughter, best sister.”

Cruz, 35, recently revealed that she doesn’t spend ages getting dressed.

“I think every woman likes clothes but I don’t put a lot of time into that,” she said. “I don’t like doing long fittings and putting a lot of time into that.

“When I am not doing this promotional kind of thing I am always in casual clothes like jeans and T-shirts. We have to use these beautiful dresses for the premieres and all of that.”
