Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are the gift that just keeps on giving.
The Hollywood super-couple’s Jolie-Pitt Foundation has earmarked $1 million to aid refugees in Pakistan, where continued violence in neighboring Afghanistan and the resurgence of the Taliban have driven millions of people in the region from their homes.
The head of the United Nations Refugee Agency, António Guterres, thanked the foundation for its assistance, calling Pakistan’s plight “the most challenging humanitarian crisis of the past decade,” as more than 2 million people are currently displaced in the country.
Jolie will talk about her work in aiding refugees Thursday when she and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton celebrate World Refugee Day in Washington D.C.
Last weekend, Pitt and his family donated $1 million to a Missouri hospital.
The donation, to St. John’s hospital in Springfield, is to establish an endowment fund for pediatric cancer specialists.
The hospital’s cancer treatment unit will be renamed the Jane Pitt Pediatric Cancer Center, in honor of Brad’s mom, who is passionate about children’s issues. It will open this summer.
