Vanessa Hudgens is keen to move away from her clean-cut Disney image — she’s taking a break from starring in musicals.
The actress — who shot to fame in the smash hit High School Musical movie franchise — says she is keen to focus on more serious films so she can sharpen her acting skills.
“I mean, I love musicals, I really do. I grew up doing them, so it’ll always have a place in my heart,” she told MTV. “At the same time, it’s nice to be able to separate the two and just be able to focus on films. It’s a lot of fun playing different characters and taking on new journeys.
“Honestly, I’m kind of taking a break from music right now. I’m just focusing on films and acting. I feel like when I’m doing something I really want, I focus on that and try to not spread myself all over the place.”
Vanessa’s boyfriend and High School Musical co-star Zac Efron recently pulled out of a planned appearance in the Footloose remake amid fears he would be typecast as a singing-and-dancing star, not a serious actor.
