According to a new report, the singer — who suffered cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon — may have taken a drugs overdose.

“Michael was non-responsive when he arrived in the emergency room. They didn’t call a time of death until he was here. They tried to revive him, then said he was dead,” a source told X 17.

“A few different people were with him but they were all giving conflicting information,” the source added. “The sense of a possible drug overdose is lingering. They’re sending him in for an autopsy.”

The LA Times reports:

The circumstances of Jackson’s death remain unclear. Law enforcement sources said that Los Angeles Police Department robbery-homicide detectives have opened an investigation into the death, though they stressed there is no evidence of criminal wrongdoing. The detectives plan to interview relatives, friends and Jackson’s doctors to try to figure out what happened. The L.A. County coroner’s office will determine a cause of death.

Brian Oxman, the Jackson family attorney, told CNN that the superstar had a very serious problem with prescription medication, and that the people that were surrounding him were enablers. “If you think the case with Anna Nicole Smith was an abuse, it’s nothing in comparison to what we have seen taking place in Michael Jackson’s life.”
