Johnny Depp might be one of Hollywood’s biggest stars — but he doesn’t see himself as a star.

The Pirates of The Caribbean actor says he prefers to hide away from the public spotlight, and doesn’t liked being referred to as a “celebrity”.

“I can’t think of myself in terms of celebrity,” he told Britain’s Daily Telegraph newspaper. “It’s just too weird. If the choice is between being gawked at and sitting in a chair in a dark room, I prefer the dark room.”

Depp, 46, says he became successful by chance. “I’ve never felt particularly ambitious or driven. Everything I’ve done has happened because it’s happened,” he explained.

“I’m just an actor and if I can leave something behind that my kids will be proud of then that’s what I want. I don’t want my kids to be embarrassed of anything I’ve done.”
