I had been in the US only a few weeks when I obtained a job as a receptionist at a University, there was no problem at all about my Geordie Accent, people liked it. On the other hand I must point out that the Americans tended to have problems with the Cockney accent. However, Americans are extremely insular and haven't the sense to realise that not everybody in the whole world speaks American - who would want to!! Keep your accent Cheryl, they are just jealous.
