Taylor Swift will be performing at  MTV’s 2009 Video Music Awards, it was confirmed Tuesday.

The 19-year-old singer is the first performer to be confirmed for entertainment’s most unpredictable awards show, which takes place Sept. 13.

“I’m so excited that MTV and the VMAs have invited me to perform, because I think this year’s show will be unlike anything they’ve ever done!” Swift told People magazine.

“I love incorporating theatrics into my performances, and the VMAs have always allowed artists to run with that. MTV has been so good to me, and I could not be more excited about this year’s VMAs.”

The appearance will mark the first time the teen country sensation will sing at the Video Music Awards.
