Kate Winslet: ‘Oscar Gong Means I Can’t be Myself’

Kate WinsletKate Winslet admits there’s a downside to being on Oscar-winning actress — she’s feels pressure to behave herself.

The British star — who bagged a Best Actress gong earlier this year — says she no longer feels like she can be herself.

“It’s very hard to feel like yourself because you’re not; you’re on show,” the 33-year-old told America’s Harper’s Bazaar. “In the old days I’d just wing it, but now you need to give people what they want, which is someone looking composed, fresh and put together.

“Our knickers will still go up our ass at the most inappropriate moment. And we’ll still want to flick them out, but you can’t, because someone is going to catch you.’”

Winslet recently revealed that she wore a pubic wig for her nude scenes in The Reader.

“The film is set in the 1950s. I couldn’t just have a landing strip! I had to grow the hair down there,” she said. “But because of years of waxing, as all of us girls know, it doesn’t come back quite the way it used to.

“They even made me a merkin — a wig – because they were so concerned that I might not be able to grow enough.”
