Adam Sandler Won’t Return to Stand-up

Adam SandlerAdam Sandler insists he’d never return to his roots as a stand-up comedian — because it would make him feel dirty.

The Hollywood funnyman — who returned to the stage for new movie Funny People in which he plays a terminally ill comic — says doing his old routine was not the same now he’s a 42-year-old family man.

“When you’re 42 years old and you go on stage and you say a joke and no one laughs, you’re just like, ‘Wow, why am I here right now? This is very humiliating’,” explains Sandler. “I was too dumb when I was young to even notice good or bad. And you also think, ‘Wow, it’s 10.30pm at night and my kids are going to wake up at six. I’m going to be tired.’

“I also haven’t talked that filthy in front of people for a long time. People recognize me now! I would drive home and I’d be in my driveway alone and I have my two little kids sleeping and I just felt like the biggest, dirtiest human being.”

The 50 First Dates star recently revealed that he wants to play a cowboy.

“I don’t like being on a horse, that’s the only negative in a western,” Sandler said.

“I like the whole get-up. I look great in a hat but I get tense around horses. If they could get a big, calm horse for me then I would like to make a western.

“I’d also like to do a gladiator movie. I am uncomfortable in the wig but I would do it.”
