Nicolas Cage is doing his bit to distract the world from the global credit crunch.

The Hollywood star voices the lead character in animated movie G-Force – which features the adventures of a team of secret agent rodents.

And the actor believes the cute action comedy is just what is needed to counteract the effects of the global recession.

“I like the fact we can put a smile on a child’s face because times are definitely hard right now,” explains Cage. “People are losing their jobs, families are getting tense. I want to be a part of entertaining children. To me that’s the most important thing you can do.”

G-Force –which also features the voices of Penélope Cruz, Tracy Morgan and Bill Nighy — hits movie theaters July 24.
