Amy Wineouse‘s father is set to follow in his superstar daughter’s footsteps — by releasing an album.

Former taxi driver Mitch Winehouse has reportedly been busy laying down tracks including Frank Sinatra covers as well as his own songs in the hopes he’ll be able to put out a record.

“Mitch has been working on it for a while now,” a source told British newspaper The Sun.

“Amy always credits her dad with getting her into singing.

“He loves music. He has a good voice and wants a go at turning professional.”

Mitch has approached Amy’s label, Island Records, about a deal.

Meanwhile, Amy’s ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, has revealed how the troubled singer nearly died in his arms after a three-day heroin and crack binge.

“It was nearly midnight and I’d finally got her upstairs,” he said. “We were sitting on the bed talking. Her eyes suddenly went blank…

“She started having a fit on the bed. She slid down on to the floor before I could stop her.

“She started quivering again and it suddenly grew into what seemed like a full-blown epileptic fit.

“I held her to me — and I thought she was dying in my arms… I couldn’t bear for her to die in front of me.”
