David Beckham has started to “engage” with his critics — and it’s all thanks to his superstar pal Tom Cruise.
The soccer star has clashed twice with members of the crowd during matches for LA Galaxy following his well-publicized intention to get back to European football.
“David always expected a backlash from some fans and that is exactly what he’s getting,” says a source close to the star. “In fact it was Tom who suggested David face his critics and engage with them in a positive way.
“Tom has been in similar situations on the red carpet but perhaps he underestimated the passion of soccer fans — even in the US.”
It was recently claimed that Cruise has been a huge influence on Beckham’s life since he arrived in Los Angeles with his family.
An unauthorized book about David claimed Beckham talks to Cruise “most days of the week” — taking advice on everything from his Hollywood lifestyle to which physical therapist to use.
