Katherine Heigl likes her men to play it cool.

The Grey’s Anatomy star admits that if her husband Josh Kelley had shown he was keen on her they may never have stayed together.

“If you have a guy who is relentless and obviously so into it, and a puppy dog at your feet, then it’s not as sexy and interesting as the guy who plays it a little cool,” said Katherine. “I talk to my husband Josh about this all the time.

“The next day after our first date I waited until three o’clock, but I didn’t wait for him to call me. I waited until three and I went, ‘Sc**w it, I’m going to call him.’

“I called and invited him out to a friend’s barbecue. He showed up and we had a great time, and it was on from there.”

Heigl — who stars opposite Scottish actor Gerard Butler in new movie The Ugly Truth — recently revealed that she doesn’t have time to cook.

“For me I’ve been really, really lucky because my husband is super supportive and he’s got his own career and his own thing and he recognizes that what I do I’m passionate about and is important to me,” she said. “He’d never ask me to compromise that so I could be home to make him dinner. It is 2009 after all.”
