Paula Abdul Not Returning to American Idol

Paula Abdul won’t be back for the next season of American Idol.
“With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to Idol,” the 47-year-old wrote on her Twitter page Tuesday. “I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day one become an international phenomenon.
“What I want to say most, is how much I appreciate the undying support and enormous love that you have showered upon me. I do, without any doubt, have the BEST fans in the entire world and I love you all.”
No reason was given for her departure just two days before she was to return to work. Abdul’s rep declined to comment except to confirm she was leaving.
“Paula Abdul has been an important part of the American Idol family over the last eight seasons and we are saddened that she has decided not to return to the show,” Fox television says in a statement. “While Paula will not be continuing with us, she’s a tremendous talent and we wish her the best.”
Idol is about to begin taping segments for its ninth season, with auditions starting Thursday in Denver. The show returns on the air in January.
Abdul’s manager recently said the star likely won’t appear on Idol‘s next season.
“Very sadly, it does not appear that she’s going to be back on Idol,” said David Sonenberg, who began representing Abdul a few weeks ago.
Idol will now hit the airwaves with just three judges: Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi.
