Jennifer Hudson is a mommy!

The American Idol star gave birth to her first child, a son, late Monday evening.

The baby’s name is David Daniel Otunga, Jr., named for his father and Hudson’s fiancee.

The tot weighed in at seven pounds, fourteen ounces.

“The baby is beautiful and perfect,” says Hudson’s rep Lisa Kasteler. “His parents are ecstatic.”

Jennifer and David, Sr. — who never announced they were expecting a child together — did not know the sex of the baby in advance.

According to the Hollywood Reporter’s Roger Friedman, the couple didn’t announce the pregnancy out of superstition and because of the murders of her mother, brother, and nephew last October.
