Britney Spears ‘Being Used as Ratings Bait’

Britney SpearsBritney Spears “surprised” music industry insiders after receiving seven Video Music Awards nominations — because all she’s done this year is lip-sync.

According to Fox News, the Toxic singer is being used by MTV as ratings bait.

“We were surprised she got so many nominations because she has been ‘lip-syncing’ and while she is talented, the terrain has changed so this may be sympathy nominations because she is getting well,” said a key industry insider. “Every network is hurting for eyeballs. Britney always draws an audience.”

Spears’ appearance at last year’s VMAs increased ratings 41 percent from two years prior.

Britney’s former music producer and good friend, the Grammy winning Dallas Austin, added, “Britney is very normal, very average. She’s fun, she likes to play games, it’s sad because Hollywood makes you into a person that you don’t want to be.

“She can sing, but it’s different than being a singer and a person who can sing. The average person can sing pretty much, you can sing along to it in the car and you’ll probably be in the same pitch. But then there’s people who can’t sing, and they’re tone deaf and they can’t hear the pitch that the song is in. That’s a different story.

“Britney, Janet Jackson, Aaliyah — there are a lot of people with really great tones that aren’t going to sing like Celine Dion or Whitney Houston.”

    She is extremely talented and an icon, it’s a shame some people (the minority) out there don’t see that side of her because of their pathetic outlooks of what an artist should be, sitting on a chair & singing- She has the IT factor and she does sing live!

    I don’t understand why this article, and others like it with the same quotes, are trying to infer that Britney “lip-syncing” should have anything to do with VMA nods. Last I checked, the VMA’s – VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS – or MUSIC VIDEO AWARDS if that makes it easier for some to understand, is about MUSIC VIDEOS, not about how someone sings when they perform live! It is all about the MUSIC VIDEO(S) for songs. Also, in MUSIC VIDEOS, EVERY SINGER IS LIP SYNCING ANYWAYS! It irks me when people try to write about the music industry when in fact they don’t know much of what they’re even covering.

    The original Fox article also mentioned that insiders were shocked that she received 7 nominations for her “1 and only music video this year.” Well, she’s had 4 videos this year – “Womanizer,” “Circus,” “If U Seek Amy,” and “Radar.” Her nominations are spread over the first two of those videos – which were highly praised for their high energy and choreography. They are undoubtedly two of the better music videos that have come out this year and deserve nominations in the categories they have received nods in.

    It’s sad that Fox News won’t allow comments on their own articles, especially when they have false facts and are deliberately trying to lean an article/news story in a specific direction that does not portray the truth of the situation.

    Idiots. So-called “insiders” who are probably fake people used to create controversy over anything related to Spears. Britney is talented, she sings pretty good (on record) for a pop star and she’s been making a killer comeback. Plus, they make it sound like MTV does the nominating – last time I checked it was regular people who voted. Hmmmm… Idiotic attempt at making more drama surrounding Britney.
