Mischa Barton has been ordered to slim down for her role as a model in new TV series The Beautiful Life.

The actress — who was recently released from hospital after being placed under involuntary psychiatric hold — was apparently “shocked to tears” when she was told she’s too fat and needs to drop 10lbs.

“She knows that means they are calling her fat behind her back,” blabbed one insider. “She knows she is heavier than she needs to be but to hear it like that? it really shook her. How can Mischa play a model when she’s looking so heavy?

“She’s broken down in tears more than once before shooting. It’s a lot of pressure for someone who is just out of hospital.

“She’s always been able to lose weight fast. Everyone knows she’s been struggling, so people are just really rooting for her.”

It was recently reported that Mischa — who’s filming in New York — had been hitting the downtown Equinox gym and has even hired a trainer.

“Mischa is really focused on getting into shape,” a source told People mag.

“Mischa has been doing a lot of conditioning with weights as well as cardio on the treadmill, and some kickboxing.

“She’s been very consistent and she seems focused.”
