Penelope Cruz has gone into hiding.

The actress — who has, apart from the odd necessary red-carpet appearance, been avoiding the limelight since June — is desperately trying to keep a low profile.

Why, you ask? Because she is pregnant!

“Penelope is hiding out until she’s further along in the pregnancy,” a source told the New York Post‘s Page Six gossip column.

Pregnancy speculation first started earlier this month, when a source said, “Penelope is about four months pregnant.

“She’s really healthy now and will be a great mother.”

Cruz, 35, recently told the UK’s Psychologies magazine that she’s keen to settle down and have kids.

“I want to have babies one day but not right now. When I do it I want to do it really well. I want it to be my best project in life,” she said. “I don’t know if I believe in marriage. I believe in family, love and children.”

“I have a tendency to become a mother to everyone around me,” she added. “My brother and sister are always complaining that I’m too protective.”

Of her baby dady, longtime partner Javier Bardem, Cruz said, “He’s a wonderful man, a great actor.”
