Rumer Willis: ‘Having Famous Parents Doesn’t Guarantee Success’
She’s got Bruce Willis and Demi Moore as parents, but Rumer Willis insists having a famous mother and father isn’t a free pass to Hollywood success.
“I would never want the responsibility of being the prettiest girl onscreen,” says Rumer, who stars in the new horror flick Sorority Row as a geeky student with glasses and goth-style hair. “Growing up with a mother like mine gives you a skewed idea of what a mother should look like. My mother’s jeans are smaller than mine!”
On her determination to make it to the top, the 21-year-old said, “Having a famous name can be a help.
“But everyone has opportunities and, in the end, if you are talented, you’ll get work. If you’re not, you won’t. And my parents have always been supportive.
“In any case, people don’t connect with perfection. They connect more with your flaws — so I don’t mind that.
“I’m going into the industry when it’s tougher than ever — the expectations are even higher than when my parents started out.
“I have two younger sisters who are still at school and I hear about it all the time. But they don’t need to be stick skinny.
“Seeing bones through your skin is not a good look.
“There’s so much pressure, I think from everywhere, to look a certain way and dress a certain way.
“I definitely know I don’t fit the convention. When I was at school, I looked a complete dork — I had glasses and nobody told me a center parting was not a good look.”
