Nicole Richie Devastated Over DJ AM Death

Posted by Adam

Nicole Richie and Joel MaddenNicole Richie “almost collapsed” when she found out about the death of her ex-boyfriend DJ AM.

AM — whose real name is Adam Goldstein — was found dead in his New York City apartment at 5:20 p.m. Friday. An autopsy was inconclusive, but the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office expects to find out what killed him in a few weeks when toxicology tests come back.

“Nicole almost collapsed in grief when she found out,” a source told America’s Star magazine. “She said she felt like her heart stopped for a few minutes.

“Nicole’s doctor raced to the house to check on her.”

During their relationship and engagement in 2005, Goldstein and Richie — who is pregnant with her second child — had shared a commitment to beat their addictions. “Adam was the one who got her to straighten up,” says a source. “She never thought he’d come to this. She’s horrified and regrets that she didn’t reach out and help him.”

Leave this poor guy and his family alone, if you want to follow the story thats one thing, but dont assume it was an overdose, and even if it was, its still a horrible tragedy and Im sure his family and friends would really appreciate it.

It was an overdose, proof that it is a progressive disease that never leaves. Even though he did die of an overdose, it does not diminish his humanity, make him any less of a person, or give us reason to sneer and disrespect him. Those who disrespect him couldn’t, in life, reach up high enough to shine his shoes. I have known people who have died of this disease and they, in life, were wonderful people struggling with a disease the same way others struggle with disease, only addiction is still stigmatized. The stigma is still here, and is a large part of the reason we have lost SO MANY wonderful people to it. Adam, rest in peace, and thank you for reaching out to help others while in the midst of your own struggle with addiction. God bless you, friend.
