Here’s a picture of Nicole Richie and the late DJ AM at the 2005 MTV Movie Awards.Richie and AM — real name Adam Goldstein — dated from 2003 to 2005, and they broke up after a nine-month engagement.

Goldstein died Friday. He was 36.

Richie — who is pregnant with her second child — is said to be devastated.

“Nicole almost collapsed in grief when she found out,” a source told America’s Star magazine. “She said she felt like her heart stopped for a few minutes.

“Nicole’s doctor raced to the house to check on her.”

During their relationship and engagement in 2005, Goldstein and Richie — who is pregnant with her second child — had shared a commitment to beat their addictions. “Adam was the one who got her to straighten up,” says a source. “She never thought he’d come to this. She’s horrified and regrets that she didn’t reach out and help him.”
