Kate Beckinsale didn’t touch a drop of alcohol while filming her new movie Whiteout — because it could have killed her.

The sub-zero setting for the film saw Kate and her co-stars shooting in freezing cold Antarctica which meant special precautions had to be taken — including when it came to boozing.

“There was no drinking,” explains Beckinsale. “I never really drink but even if I did we were all told it wasn’t a good idea in such cold conditions. “They say that you’re more prone to get frostbite or hypothermia or sudden adult death syndrome after drinking so we all thought it best to give it a miss.”

Kate, 36, recently revealed that she spends most of her time surrounded by men.

“It’s the story of my life,” said the actress, who is married to Underworld director Len Wiseman and has a child with Frost/Nixon star Michael Sheen.

“I have four brothers. Try giving me a wedgie and you’ll see, I’m quick! It’s a bit like that in the film business too. There’s always a bunch of boys, and then there’s one actress. But I’m not going to constantly keep marrying everybody I work with!”
