The same thing happens to me and people used to accuse me of manipulating my voice to get attention or be seductive like Marilyn Monroe. I don't think that he did it on purpose, he was just bashful. I am tired of constant insinuations that Michael was some sort of insincere master manipulator. I also think that we Americans are very shallow when we evaluate Michael Jackson: we obscess over his skin, hair, nose, weight, sexual orientation.... We overlook his intelligence, generosity, kindness, playfulness and his emotional suffering.David was a close, long-time friend so it's only natural that Michael would relax and 'let it all hang out' around him.
