George Clooney: ‘I’ve felt lonely in relationships’

George Clooney admits he’s been in relationships where he’s felt “terribly alone”.
The actor — who had a five year one/off relationship with British model Lisa Snowdon, was married to Talia Balsam from 1989–1993 and is currently dating Italian TV presenter Elisabetta Canalis — says having a partner doesn’t always make him feel less lonely.
“People keep asking me if I worry about being alone — but listen, I’ve been in some relationships where I’ve felt terribly alone,” he said.
“Just because you’re with someone in a couple doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re incredibly happy and complete — sometimes the opposite.
“I’ve broken up with a few people, and had a lot of people break up with me, and sometimes it has been a relatively easy thing, and sometimes it has been the sensible thing because the relationship wasn’t working out.
“I’m just trying to live my life the way I choose to live it here and hope it all works out, but I’m also well aware that certain things you can do which are cute when you do them at 20 become less cute when you’re still doing them at 48.”
Clooney also dished on his romance with Canalis, 30. “If life’s a journey, then right now I’ve got a very nice co-pilot,” he said.
“I’m not going to project into the future and say I’ve found a co-pilot for life because I don’t want to jinx things… but I will say that at the moment, I’m having a very nice time being a frequent flyer on Alitalia.”
