Dancing With The Stars Airs Tribute to Patrick Swayze

Posted by Adam

Dancing With The Stars aired a special tribute to the late Patrick Swayze during its episode Wednesday night.

They played a series of clips featuring Patrick and the actor’s face was projected on to the studio walls.

Patrick — known for his role in the 1987 film Dirty Dancingdied earlier this month after losing his battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 57.

The actor was a guest mentor on the first season of Dancing With The Stars in 2005.

In his new memoir, Swayze revealed that he was bullied at school because of his dancing.

“My mother Patsy, a choreographer and teacher with the determination of a pit bull, was one of the founders of Houston’s dance scene,” he wrote. “I was born in 1952, the second of five children and the eldest boy. All of us worked hard to win Mum’s approval in dance competitions.

“By junior high school, everybody knew I was a dancer. I was called ‘fag’ and beaten up, each time becoming more determined to get those boys back. But it wasn’t until five kids attacked me when I was 12 that Dad gave me the tools for revenge.

“I spent a couple of months learning martial arts and boxing, and when my father thought I was ready, he drove me to school, demanding I be allowed to fight the boys one by one. Times were different then. I won’t deny I was scared — not of getting hurt, but of letting Dad down. I beat all five boys that day and as each left bloody and bruised, I could see flickers of pride cross Dad’s face.

“If there’s one thing I learned from him, it’s that you might not always win, but you never give up. Since that day, I never have.”

I was so touched by this tribute. Dirty Dancing remains one of my favorite movies and the choreography for The Time Of My Life is still one of my favorite parts. Kudos to the dancers for doing a wonderful job. You made Patrick proud.

I was very disappointed with the tribute. I thought that you were going to have the actual first time he was on the show for it became famous. It was a nice tribute, but not what I was looking forward to. I wanted to see one more time of Patrick on the TV looking healthy and energetic.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVED the tribute! Dirty Dancing was/is my favorite movie of all times. Thank you DWTS for doing this! It was done beautifully and you couldn’t have picked a better dancer than Cheryl to fill the role and do it justice. Long live Patrick’s soul!

I also hoped they would show more of his time on the first season. However, I am so glad they chose Tony to dance his part at the end instead of the younger smiling too much Mark or Derek. Tony was the best choice so thank you for that Dancing With The Stars.

I loved the tribute of the Dirty Dancing movie it brought tears to my eyes, but the one thing that did disappoint me was the band singing his song “Shes like the wind” I wished they had used his version of it but other then that I loved it. Thank you DWTS for acknowledging Patrick Swayze.

Should have used the original music…should have used original video clips from movie…DWTS missed the opportunity that Swayze afforded them by his presence on the show…I wanted to see Swayze do again what made him the talent he was….that would have been a true tribute…you blew it guys!

I’ve just watched the fabulous video, (since I wasn’t able watch the Tribute during the DWTS program), and it was difficult to hold back the tears. “Great job, and “kuddos” to all the Pros, especially to Tony and Cheryl for their outstanding portrayal!! I also love and appreciate Tonys’ gesture at the very end, throwing a kiss up toward Heaven, to Patrick!! Tribute, well done!
    Thanks.
