Mariah Carey Wanted to Replace Abdul on Idol

Mariah Carey says she would’ve loved to have replaced Paula Abdul on American Idol — but she’s just too busy.
Abdul’s place on the Idol judging panel was eventually filled by chat show host Ellen DeGeneres but Carey admits she would have snapped up the chance to sit alongside Simon Cowell if she had space in her jam-packed schedule.
“I would have liked to have done it but when would I have got the chance?” she says. “I love the show and I love to see the kids audition on there but I can’t find the time to commit to something so huge right now.”
Meanwhile, Carey has revealed that she and her husband, America’s Got Talent host Nick Cannon, have been busy choosing baby names — even though they’re not expecting.
“We have to keep the name secret because if we told everybody, then somebody might use it and then we have to change it, and then it wouldn’t be as good,” she said Tuesday on SIRIUS XM’s Morning Mash Up. “We picked these names out a long time ago.”
