Stephen Gately ‘Choked on His Own Vomit’

Stephen Gately died after choking on his own vomit, a report claims.
The former Boyzone singer, 33, apparently got “totally trashed” during a night at a gay club on Majorca with civil partner Andy Cowles.
Although Gately rarely drank, he was seen downing potent cocktails and white wine before meeting up with a 25-year-old Bulgarian called Giorgi Duchev and returning to their $2million apartment where they continued boozing.
“He was with Andy when I arrived at 3am and they were still there when I left around 5.45am,” an onlooker said.
“They weren’t off their faces but they were drinking. They weren’t being rowdy — they were just two lads on a night out.
“Andrew was dancing and Stephen was jigging around. People went up and chatted to them but it was all very low-key.”
Stephen and Andy then met Giorgi.
He returned with them to the apartment at 4.30am.
Andy went off to bed at around 5.30am, leaving Stephen asleep on a sofa.
Andy discovered Stephen several hours later in a strange “prayer position” — squatting on the floor with his head face down on a pillow on the couch.
“Andy said he screamed, ‘Wake up! Wake up!’ at him. He also tried mouth-to-mouth resuscitation,” a source said.
“But doctors later confirmed Stephen’s lungs had filled with fluid. There was nothing Andy could have done. He’d drowned and asphyxiated.”
After trying to revive Stephen, 31-year-old Andy then called for help from a neighbor’s home.
Investigators arrived at the house at 1pm and admitted the Irish star’s death was a “mystery” — but ruled out foul play.
“Stephen was discovered in a strange position. He was squatting down on the sofa almost in a praying position,” a police source said.
“At the moment all we know is Stephen Gately is dead and he was found on a sofa at an apartment in Port d’Andratx on Saturday.
“The rest is a mystery. There were no signs of violence or evidence of suicide or any obvious evidence pointing to another probable cause of death, like drug use. But we’re unable to shed any light on what’s happened until after a post mortem.”
